All over the world, April is designated as World Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month and you will find most people who are in the know wearing blue.
In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared 2nd April as World Autism Day to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of people on the Autism Spectrum so they can lead full and meaningful lives.
The theme for this year’s World Autism Day celebration is “Inclusive Quality Education for all”, and ENNY Foundation has decided to join in the celebrations, by educating and creating awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder through school visits and staff training and having some of the staff volunteer or spend a day with the some of the autism centres in and around Accra.
We want to reiterate that this celebration is to help us embrace the unique abilities of people on the autism spectrum and to love them just as they are and not try to change them into who we want them to be.
With Alex Lowery, we as an organisation, want to remind Ghanaians and the world that, “Autism is not a processing error, but a different operating system” (4th April, 2016).
