The director of ENNY Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ntow Nyarko, has taken his staff through a series of training to remind them of the core therapy procedure/techniques of the organisation- The SonRise Program.
The first training was held on Saturday 20th May, 2023 and the subsequent ones were held on 23rd May, 6th and 13th June, 2023 respectively.
The Sonrise therapy program is a procedure that encourages facilitators and parents to be present with their children, join them and then guide/support them through the difficulties of autism. It is based on the rule, ‘Join their world and bring them out into yours.’
The trainees watched videos on the various techniques, were given the opportunity to discuss how they use some of these techniques with the children they support currently and also discuss how they were going to improve implementation of these techniques in the future.
Mr. Nyarko reminded the staff of ENNY Foundation that although most of the children are in school, our mandate is to support them not as regular teachers but as SonRise facilitators but they can still leverage on the same principles and techniques during the sessions.
“Autism (ASD) is NOT a behavioural disorder”, he said. He also reiterated that parents are their children’s best resource. Children would always grow, thrive and make progress in the right and best environment.
