There has been a lot of news and information about Mental Health, not just in Ghana but around the world.
To create awareness about the importance of Mental health, every year the world over, Mental Health Awareness Day is celebrated on 10 October. Although it is not widely celebrated like other awareness days, it is still very important.
In order that parents and staff of ENNY Foundation take good care of their mental health and also have access to speak with a professional, the director of ENNY Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ntow Nyarko liaised with a psychologist, Ms. Miriam Danso.
Ms. Danso provides support to some parents of ENNY Foundation’s children; and she met with the ENNY team on August 27th, 2023 via zoom to talk to us about the importance of mental health and the need to seek professional help when necessary.
She stated that, “every one of us has mental health”. Sometimes, our mental health is good and other times, it is not so good. The pressures of life and the good times affect our mental health one way or another and this can affect our output and our time with the children.
Ms. Danso encouraged us to seek professional help when the need arises, to rest and relax when the need be and to take care of ourselves- “self-care is not laziness”.
As we prepare to celebrate Mental Health Awareness day next month, let us remember that “We all have mental health, and it is important for us to take care of ourselves. Self-care is the practice of taking care of oneself. It takes purposeful effort, but it can help with maintaining or improving your daily mental well-being.”
Always put your mental health first.
